Heidi, My Very Own Dachshund

Guest post by Melissa Macon.

The day came when I decided I wanted to buy my puppy. I searched the different pet stores, read the ads in the local newspaper, and talked with friends who might know of a puppy available. Finally, I decided to go online using my satellite wireless internet . I had pretty much decided that I wanted a weiny dog. That is the breed of dog I remember my family had during my growing years.

I located a number of breeders online. I had many questions as I was curious how the puppy is sent from one part of the country to another. This question helped me to decide I wanted an area where I could drive to in order to pick up the new member of my family.

It was fun, yet difficult, looking over the dozens and dozens of pictures. It seemed like it was going to be impossible for me to make a final choice. Fortunately, I discovered a picture of this beautiful little female dachshund. I immediately fell in love with her big, bold eyes and the sad little look on her face. I decided not to waste any time by emailing back and forth. I called the breeder. Heidi (I had already selected the name) was still available. Since it was the weekend I decided to make arrangements to pick up my new puppy right then and there.

Heidi has been with me for several years. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life to buy my puppy.

Windows Lowered Heating Bills

Guest post written by Tia Few

Last winter I decided to get my old windows replaced in my home because they were so old that the glass looked like it was warped and melting. I got my windows replaced with new windows that fit tightly in the frames with new and smooth glass. The sears home pro vinyl siding professionals came right to my house and took the old windows out of the frames and disposed of them for me and installed new windows in their place. The whole process took less than a day and I called just a week in advance to have them switched out.

I was most suprised when I received my first heating bill for the winter. I have self regulating thermometers in my house so the temperature adjusts to be a constant degree at all times so I do not have to fiddle with the thermometer as the temperature outside rises and lowers.

The heating bill for the month was so drastically lowered that I was at first shocked as I had not thought of the fact that the windows could have anything to do with it. Then my husband mentioned to me that the newer windows were fitting tighter in the frames and that the old windows were probably letting out such a strong draft due to their loose fit. The newer tighter fitting windows saved us tons of money.

I Cant Get Enough of the World Cup

Guest blog post written by sports blogger Nicholas Emerson.

The most popular sporting event in the world is the world cup soccer tournament. I have the opportunity to view this on satellite television because I found some very cheap direc tv prices so that I could get my fill of World Cup action. Of course this doesn't happen all the time and sometimes it is a rerun versus a live game, but of course it depends on what teams are playing. When a favorite side is on, I like to view the action whenever possible as the excitement grows to a fever pitch, especially when each team is comparable in ability.

soccer or Football as it is known around the world, has it's annual tournament every four years. There are 31 teams selected from a number of preliminary elimination games plus the host country who is included automatically. The total number is then 32, who are then split up into groups or pools for round robin play. The highest total points are then awarded pass into the next round.

It is exciting to see if the favorites are able to advance or whether this tournament will feature an upstart that the experts didn't see coming. Occasionally, a latecomer will catch fire, due to a hot goalie or lucky bounce. That is one of the beautiful things in the tournament. Although there are favorites, the best team does not always win the final.

Learn To Play the Piano

When you go to parties, there is always someone there who can play the piano. If there is not, then everyone is asked if they can play. Perhaps you are one that would like to learn to play piano. If so, I would like to suggest to you that you check into the Internet for a beginner course to play the piano.

It is easier than you think if you love music. You are never to old to learn. Just imagine learning to play in just 20 minutes with easy to read music and a video that will show you just how its done.

Perhaps you are thinking it is too expensive to take lessons, but I believe if you will check into this, you will find it is very affordable for anyone. Imagine yourself being the entertainer at the next party you attend. Wouldn't that be fun?

Stormy Weather

We have really had the bad weather all around us. They had straight line winds right down Highway 3 and they said they didn't think that there was one farm that didn't have some sort of damage for many miles. Clarion was flooded as never before with 4" of rain all at once and all 4" in their basements. Coulter was nearly destroyed by straight line winds. Practically all the trees down and homes wrecked. Hampton had 6" of rain all at once and basements flooded and roads. Many country roads were just plain washed out. Tonight they are predicting more severe storms overnight into tomorrow.

Bacon and Eggs

We had breakfast for supper tonight. I made a huge pan of crisp bacon and eggs over easy for supper tonight. Hot toast buttered with raspberry jam and cold milk tasted very good for a change. I fresh fried some potatoes to go along with the bacon and eggs and put on a dish of cold sliced peaches for dessert. It was an easy supper but tasty and fast. I had been working on the computer and it was getting too close to suppertime. Last night we went out to the Pizza Ranch and had a great buffet.

The Men Pen - Concealer Stick

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of The Men Pen. All opinions are 100% mine.

Men often have the same skin problems that women do. However, they may not be aware of the mens makeup that is available to them. My brother-in-law had two noticeable blemishes on his face and he used to borrow his wife's concealer stick to cover them up. He was a little embarrassed to tell us about it but it worked. It did not exactly match his complexion but he did not know what else to do. He was very aware of it and felt everyone was looking at him. He did not know that there were mens cosmetics available to him in as many as 17 different colors. It is great for men to be able to purchase their own concealer sticks to cover blemishes and moles.
Some even can use them to cover up their Tatoos when they go to work as many employers today do not approve of them. One of the many uses can be to cover up scars and cover problems they might have considered that the only solution would be plastic surgery. I think it would be a great idea for my husband to get a matching color to his hair and put some where his hair has gotten just a bit thin. I know that would work in smaller areas and he would feel better about himself.

There are so many uses for these wonderful cosmetic sticks. People with Acne scars could use it and I discovered it is part of the makeup for actors and male models also.

Family trip

We took a family trip with our niece and we had a great time. We went up north of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and it was just beautiful. Went to visit family on a big farm. They have so many beautiful trees, flowers and have so many things to see and do there. The weather was wonderful. We had one little sprinkle on Saturday but not enough to bother.

Crawling

It is so much fun to watch a baby begin to crawl. You know it won't be long until they are pulling themselves up to the furniture. Then the next step is to walk without help. And then their Mother has all kinds of fun keeping them out of trouble. They love to open kitchen doors and play in the pots and pans. It is much more fun than any of their toys. I think it is because it is something new and different, don't you?

Buy Gold Eagle Coins

So you have finally been able to save up some money and you are ready to invest. You want to be sure you are investing in something that will be safe and preserve your wealth for the future. That is why it would be a great idea to buy gold eagle coins. There has never been a better time to buy gold with the economy so uncertain. Gold has withstood the test of time. Centuries ago, the Romans and others knew how valuable gold was at that time and it has continued to keep its value while the stock market has had serious ups and downs. Gold can be purchased directly from the U.S. Gold Bureau and they will assist you in deciding on a safe depository for your gold. You can also have it shipped directly to your home.

America's Favorite Gift Cards

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of FriendGiftr. All opinions are 100% mine.

Gift cards have been a life saver for me so many times. There are a great many wedding showers and baby showers in our church and I never know what to buy. Now with FriendGiftr I have a 120 merchants to choose from without leaving my home to run to the stores. I love to give gift cards for restaurants on birthdays and one of my favorite merchants is Applebee's. Most of our family and friends enjoy a good meal there, as well. However, one of the neat things about getting these gift cards is that they can exchange them for another merchant if they wish and it will not cost anything extra. Not only that but they can also split it up and have part of their gift card with one merchant and part of it with another. That is a wonderful advantage. It is also special to be able to send a digital card too.
I know one time it was my best friend's birthday and I sent her a beautiful card and then I found out how much she loves reading and I wished I had sent her a gift card to Barnes & Noble Booksellers. She would have been so pleased. But her birthday is coming around again next month so I can easily sent her a gift card at that time.
In addition, if you have a Blackberry or iPhone you can also order at Facebook and Android. It is so very convenient.

Grandchildren Grow So Fast

I can't believe how big our great grandchildren are getting already. Soon one will be 14 and the youngest are 6 months. The little ones are doing new things every day. It is amazing how they learn to talk and carry on a real conversation with you when they get over two years old. They really go through a multitude of stages, from sitting, to crawling, walking and talking and the next thing you know they are in school. It all goes too fast.

Avalon Waterways River Cruises-Panorama

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Avalon Waterways. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have always wanted to see many parts of Europe. Therefore, I have searched the Internet for River Cruise Deals and I foundwww.avalonwaterways.com. They have a wonderful new Avalon Panorama cruise ship that has all the amenities you could possibly desire. I took their 3D tour and I feel my favorite part of the ship was the full wall size 11 x 7 ft panoramic window in the suites. What a view! It is just outstanding. The rooms are spacious and provide you with everything you need including the proper clothing to wear during the cruise. When you arrive at the end of your day, you have a colorful room and completely comfortable bed awaiting you with comfy robe and slippers. This is the first ship of its kind in Europe with 1550 percent more suites available. Imagine that a 200 foot suite could easily accommodate 100 cruisers inside it. Outstanding! The Open Air Balcony in each Avalon Suite can be used all the time, no matter what the weather, whereas other ships are limited, depending on weather conditions. Avalon Waterways have thought of everything. I want to start planning now and I want to Request a free cruise brochure from them now as there are presently many River Cruise Deals at great rates.

Weather

No kidding when they say if you don't like the weather here, just wait a day. It went from boiling hot to almost chilly. I wore a jacket to the garage this morning to get the car serviced. Had to pick up some groceries but by then it had warmed enough to leave the jacket in the car. Why is it we are always on the verge of being out of milk? We ought to have a cow for as much milk as we drink. It goes fast though if you use it in pudding or cappiccino but it is soooo good. Well better get busy and start lining up supper. Picked up a couple ears of sweet corn but doubt it is very good yet as it has to be flown in from across the country

Chills and Fever

Boy was I sick yesterday. The night before I had such chills, I just shook the bed. No matter how much I pulled up the covers, I could not stop shaking. I finally got out of bed and put on my heavy winter fluffy robe and slippers and got back into bed. It took awhile but I finally warmed up and quick shaking. Then when I got up I was warm. My temperature was about 3 degrees above what is normal for me. I just burned up all day with a few chills at noon and then more fever. It got to 100.5 and didn't know what to do. Kept drinking water as they say that will bring down a fever. Anyway, I took 2 coated aspirin and by the time I went to bed I was warm but felt almost normal. Slept pretty good and about 3 am took 2 tylenol. Then when I woke up I was soaking wet with sweat and knew the fever had broken. My husband and I talked about it and he had this about 2 weeks ago. When the weather was 90, he wanted the a/c off and bundled him up in a heavy throw blanket and heat pad. Must be a 24 hour virus like our old doctor used to say. Glad it is over.
