Birthday

Today is our friend, Lois' birthday. We watch her house for her all winter while she is in Arizona. That big 6" snow fall we had not too long ago froze about a foot deep right in front of the door we had to go in to check the house. I had to take the spade over and chop away the ice so we could get the door open. Everything in the house was fine but last week there was a little water in the basement from all the snow melting and rain. She has two sump pumps though that do a good job and a dehumifier that runs all the time. Her other neighbor is home from Texas but Lois usually stays till mid or late May. It gets really too hot in AZ by that time.

Spring Has Sprung

spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the flowers is? That's an old
saying I heard years ago. The tulips look kind of sick but there are actually buds sticking out just above the ground, so looks like we will have a few anyway. There is a second crop of them that should be popping up anytime so will keep out little gas flags out there for awhile to make sure the rabbits don't get them.

Birds

Got the bird feeders filled and saw our first Goldfinch. They are the prettiest birds and so glad to see they are going to return again this year. We have feeders close to the windows so we can really see them. Hope to see orioles again this year. Last year was the first time we had some. And the hummingbirds usually come in May.

Warmer At Last

Well I think winter has finally got it out of it's system and it is on the way to Spring. The snow is going fast. Makes ice overnight but melts quickly the next day. things are starting to dry out. Looks like out lilac bush is dead. will have to check it out and see. Birds are slowly starting to return.

Here it comes Again

Can you believe it? 3 to 4 more inches of heavy wet snow. I don't know if the tulips stand a chance in this. We have 4' icycles hanging from the garage and I have to go out there and walk thru the snow to knock them down before they do damage to the roof. It's a real problem this year. Don't remember doing this as long as we have lived here.

Sunny and Warmer

Well at last, it is sunny and warmer and the snow is melting. Can this be signs of Spring at last? I sure hope so. The snow blower is put away and checking out the lawn mower. Grass looks green after the snow melted. I want to get the bird feeders filled and ready. Had alot of Goldfinch last year and hope we have more this year.

Snow

Just when you thought it was safe to go out, a blizzard hit with 6" of heavy wet snow. We just got it melted good and the grass was showing in most places and now it is all white again. Looking out at our lilac bush, it doesn't look so good. Wonder if the rabbits got it. Will check it when we get rid of this snow again.

40 MPH Wind

We have 40 mph sustained winds and it is doing alot of damage to everything. Our tulips look just like someone walked over them and mashed them into the ground. I wonder if they will be able to bloom at all. The wind never seems to cease here. We really get tired of it. It is dangerous for the high profile vehicles on the road too.

Tulips

The tulips are starting to come thru. We put those little gas marker flags out and they flutter just enough to scare the rabbits away and they don't eat the tender shoots just coming out of the ground. Must taste like fresh salad to them. It has worked good for the last 3 or 4 years and the neighbors thought we had a gas line running along side our garage until we explained what they were for. It really works.

April Fool!

April 1, came and went and no one played any tricks on me for a change. It's alot of fun if you can pull something on someone and have them believing it. Driving forklift, they would put a silly sign on my back and I would drive all over the plant before I figured it out. They have alot of fun doing it though and I'm a good sport.
