Time

Time is a precious commodity. It seems to just fly by the older you get. We have been so busy with doctor appointments since my husband had colon cancer surgery. I think we have 3-4 days tied up next week with various appointments. He is going to have another pre-op physical tomorrow. This is in preparation for another smaller surgery on Thursday. It will only take one day and then we should be done with hospitals for awhile but I suppose more doctor visits. They are good to have when you need them.

Earthquake in Los Angeles

A moderate earthquake rattled downtown Los Angeles yesterday. It registered 4.1 and was centered about 10 miles from downtown, near the Los Angeles International Airport.
We used to live just a few short miles from the Airport with the jets flying so low over our home that when you were outside, you felt like you could almost reach up and touch them. Needless to say, while watching television, you could not hear a thing as they passed over. We felt some of those minor quakes while we were living there, but I am glad we moved to the Midwest before the bigger ones have struck there since l970. I guess this one was just an aftershock because two days before, they had a 4.7 earthquake which was also centered near the Airport. It is a very strange feeling to have the ground shake under you and you can hear the ground make a cracking noise also.

Hanging Baskets of Flowers

I went to the Greenhouse this morning to get a hanging basket. They were on sale and had not been picked over. I got a beautiful yellow begonia and I think it is just gorgeous. Also had them pot a pink hanging impatient in a smaller pot that hangs in a wrought iron heart out front. Our yellow peony tulips are blooming now and a few red ones. Also I saw my first hummingbird this morning and 4 Goldfinch. It is so good to see them back again. I think an oriole may be drinking out of the hummingbird feeder too as the syrup is going down pretty fast. This is a beautiful time of the year.

New War Memorial

A new War Memorial was dedicated Sunday in the town where my husband grew up. We went to the dedication and the Memorial is one of the finest I have seen yet. His two brothers were near the front lines in Italy in WWII and came back to tell about it. However, as most people have found, most of the men didn't want to talk about their experiences because they saw many horrible things. My husband was in the Korean War but he was blessed spend his time in Germany. I got several pictures of the Memorial to show him when he gets home from the hospital.

Hospitals

Hospitals are a great place to be when you are really sick. Our hospital in the neighboring town has excellent doctors and nurses. They have all the facilities for physical therapy too. My husband is in for a week with major surgery and so far he has had a great bunch of nurses and helpers. It helps you get better faster when you have good care.
