Senator Tim Johnson Back After Surgery

Senator Tim Johnson underwent emergency brain surgery last year, raising doubts over Democratic control of the Senate. He has made his first public appearance now. Senator Johnson, age 60, of South Dakota, told cheering supporters that he is back and he is expected to return to work next week. Mr. Johnson, whose speech is slurred as a result of his illness, said he was working hard to recover fully. His return to the Senate cements the Democrats' one-seat majority there.
