Winter's Grip

Yesterday we had temperatures in the high 40's. Many people opened windows and let fresh air in. Much snow was melting and I watched it fall off the neighbor's roof. There is lots of standing water everywhere. Today we got some light rain and it changed to the biggest snowflakes. I think it has stopped almost by now. That is good. We have plenty on the ground as it is and huge piles. Everyone is very anxious to have Spring.

A Bit of Rain

The neighbors threw a birthday party for their 16 year old son. All the aunts and uncles, grandparents and friends were invited. I live right next door and they have been inviting me to the last several parties. It is great that they do that. I get to visit with old friends I don't get to see very much. I know most of his aunts and uncles and his grandparents very well too. It is so nice to get a nice meal I don't have to make myself. It rained just as the party was starting but it was a light rain and stopped again. The wind quit completely so got kind of humid but it is only 69 degrees so quite comfortable. A good time was had by all including me.

Rainbows

After the rain, it is always so nice to see a beautiful rainbow. It is a double pleasure to see a double rainbow. This was a really good photo taken by my daughter near her home. We had too many trees in the way to see it all but could see some of it. I don't think we ever tire of seeing rainbows, God's promise never to destroy the earth again with flooding.

Big Rains and Large Hail

Everything went North of us but heard the rain came down really hard and fast and lots of it. The hail seems to be getting bigger and bigger everywhere. It was quarter size in lots of places. In some places it was the size of a fifty cent piece. I know other States have had baseball, softball and golf ball size hail. The Bible says in the last days we will have hail so big it weighs 32 pounds. I can't even imagine that. Think of the damage it will do and people it will kill if they aren't in a protected place.

Much Rain

We are really getting the rain now. Almost every day it rains but we need it. There is a half inch in the rain gauge right not. It is supposed to shower off and on all afternoon. Also more rain expected tonight. However, we are very fortunate that we aren't in the southern states as Oklahoma and Missouri really got it again. We need rain but not storms.

Rain at Last

We are getting some much needed rain. It was mostly like a mist most of the day but then it began to rain. Just a good soaking rain. We really need it bad. It always seems to go around us. South of us they were getting all kinds of rain and they said our air was so dry here, it just wasn't hitting the ground. The Mums are just beginning to bloom good. Guess we are to get some 70's this week instead of 50's and 60's.

Mail Time

We live in a mobilehome court and all our mailboxes are in one place. It is just far enough so I take the car, pick up the mail and often get a few groceries while I am out. Sometimes I take Holly along for the ride if it isn't too hot. She loves to go for a ride. The clouds are rolling in so thought I better get going and get the mail before the rain starts. The lawn is all mowed and trimmed and looks so nice. The neighbors are letting theirs go to seed from the looks of it.

Mexican Meal

We went out tonight for a Mexican Meal. My husband had been home for quite a few days and we stayed home due to RAGBRAI going through out town. They had blocked off all the streets we needed to go on to get uptown. So we took off with a few sprinkles coming down and when we came out of the restaurant it was still just lightly sprinkling. We had some great tacos and enchilada. They have a special Tex Mex Night and we really enjoy it.

Gas Prices

It seems like the price of gas changes daily around here. Yesterday it was one price and today it dropped a penny. I decided I better fill up as it could be raining pretty hard tomorrow. I don't like to gas up the car in the rain. I like the station I go to because they give you a free daily newspaper when you get gas.

Car Wash

We have the best car wash in town. You can run a motorhome or a semi thru one of the bays also. I love to wash the car there because you get such a great underwash and a light wax applied too. It really washes good and when you are done you drive slowly out under powerful dryers that really dry your car. I wanted to get the car washed but they said it would rain in 2 days and it did and now we have a 2 day break and more rain so might as well wait a little longer. Would like to have it stay clean a week at least when I do run it through the car wash.

Mexican Food

We were able to go have Taco Burgers this noon for lunch. That was a real treat while we waited for a prescription to be filled. Tonight we are going to our favorite restaurant for a Mexican supper. I think we could eat Mexican 7 days a week and never tire of it. I know I could. It has been raining a bit and can't decided whether to shut the windows or leave them open when we go eat.

Basketball Tournaments and Snow

It seems every time the basketball tournaments come around in March, so does the snow. The weather gal is predicting rain mixed with snow and the weather man said it might be measurable. He said not to put away the shovel just yet. We just got rid of tons of snow with some light rain and sunshine and it is so nice to see green grass and just plain grass instead of huge snow banks. It is cloudy today with some showers but we are to get a little more sunshine before we get more snow. We saw a Robin Sunday and there is a saying that it has to snow on the back of the Robin 7 times before it is over. I sure hope they are very wrong about that but it seems to happen every year.

Rain in March?

March usually comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. I am not sure what it is going to do this year. So far it has been a lamb and it is March 5 but tomorrow they say it could rain with a snow mix. I guess we will see. I just hope it goes out like a lamb, warms up in April and goes into a nice Spring for a change. We need to get rid of all this snow.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It is raining again. I guess we can just be thankful it isn't snow. I heard once that 10 or 12 inches of snow is equal to one inch of rain. So from the sounds of the drops on the roof, we are being spared many inches of snow. I think there is a little freezing mix north of us and that is dangerous. Icy roads are worse than snowy ones, I think.

Sweet Corn Season

It is sweet corn season and we have been having sweet corn for suppers. It is so very good this time of the year. The ears seem to be smaller this year and we don't know whether it is because there was too much rain at the wrong time or too little rain at the wrong time. It seems they are picking it a little too early too because we have found several ears that just weren't quite ready and they are just not good eating. But we love sweet corn and will keep looking for more and better sweet corn before the season runs out.

Thunderheads

Those huge big thunderheads came up fast tonight. We left for the next town to go to supper. It didn't take long for them to overtake us but they split and went in opposite directions. We could see it pouring rain in the north and later in the south. They definitely don't need anymore in the south where all the flooding is and was. All we got was a sprinkle but we got nearly half an inch last night so that is plenty for now.

Thunderstorms

They have been threatening us all day with severe weather. We were under a thunderstorm watch for hours. However, nothing happened. We are thankful for that. The sun is out now and you would never know there was a weather threat. We could see the dark blue clouds going both north and south of us so guess we were lucky. We had a heavy rain last night and there are more big ponds of water in the fields again. It is a bad year for farmer.

Thunder and Lightning

It has been thundering and lightning every since last night. The rain is just pouring down. Sometimes the rain gauge has gone up 3/4 of an inch in just minutes. We are running over 2 1/2 inches already in a very short time. It got so dark awhile ago I turned on the lights. The wind is really blowing too. We have been under thunderstorm watches for some time. At least it is down to about 59 degrees so we aren't likely to be having any tornados and that is a very good thing as Iowa as been targeted today for those. It is scary.

Spring has Sprung

Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the flowers is??? That's an old saying and Spring may have sprung but around it it feels more like winter is setting in again. We have a cold rain this morning threatening to change to snow. And it is going to change to snow and full snow all day tomorrow they say and more mix and rain on Saturday. What a weekend. Cold temperatures in 30's and wind is blowing like the dickens. And it's going to get worse before it gets better. It's a lousy April so far. Maybe next week will be better.

Our Car

Our car is so dirty, I really need to run it through the car wash but now they say we are going to have spotty showers all day today so might as well forget that. They have a new car/truck wash in town that is so easy to drive in and out and it does a terrific job of cleaning any vehicle. The big doors are for semis and motorhomes. I see alot of people using it and using the vacuums too to vacuum out their vehicle. It is a great addition to the town and I love to go there to wash the car.
