Fall is Here

It is definitely feeling like Fall now.  We had some unusually warm weather for a while.  You didn't know whether to put the furnace on in the morning or not as the nights got cold.  Then by late afternoon you had to turn on the air conditioner to cool off the house so you could get a good night's sleep.  Yesterday we had our first frost.  I decided it was time to start bringing in some of the bird feeders and rain gauge to be stored over the winter in the garage.  The neighbor mowed the lawn the other day and think it will probably be for the last time this year.  It has been unusual to get so much snow so early in South Dakota and that is just too close to Iowa.  The Almanac is saying a very harsh cold winter with lots of snow. I hope they are wrong.

Dangerous Heat

It is 92 degrees right now. That is way too hot for this area. The humidity is going up fast and the weekend looks to be really hot and humid. There is a big carnival and celebration going on in the next town but it is too hot to be outside. Good heat stroke weather. Staying in the air conditioning with the shades down until the sun goes down. Want to go see fireworks on the 4th if it gets down in the 80's and we can stand it. Also family reunion on Saturday but it is out on a farm and lots of room for breeze which makes quite a difference.

It Is Too HOT!

I went to the stores today and the bank registered 90 degrees. There isn't a whisper of wind outside at all. A person could die out there in that sun I think. They are doing some blacktop patching in our court and you pick up the pieces of blacktop on your car and can hear it hitting on the bottom of the car. My husband says we will never get rid of it. I suppose since it is so hot it just adheres to the underside of the car. My husband wanted to mow today but first it was too wet from the dew and now it is just plain too hot to survive outside. Thank God for air conditioning.

100 degrees in The Sun

Our thermometer on the deck says 100 degrees. And it feels like it out in the sun. We mowed the sunny side of the lawn yesterday afternoon about 2:30 and it was half sun and half shade. No breeze. It was terrible. We both mowed so didn't take us very long. It was a good thing because you could melt out there and sunburn too. I wish the grass would slow down growing but we keep getting rains on it but I guess that is good for the crops.

Oil Price Settles at Record High

We have all seen it at the gas pump and it sounds like the gas is going to keep rising. Not only that but our lights and heat are rising too. Yesterday oil prices rose to fresh highs due to a combination of the weak dollar, supply concerns in Mexico and continued tensions in northern Iraq. It hit $93.53 a barrel, a record price and it could go up even more. Some are talking $100 a barrel. This is not good with winter coming on too. People won't be traveling as much but they have to heat and light their homes in the winter.
