Fall is Here

It is definitely feeling like Fall now.  We had some unusually warm weather for a while.  You didn't know whether to put the furnace on in the morning or not as the nights got cold.  Then by late afternoon you had to turn on the air conditioner to cool off the house so you could get a good night's sleep.  Yesterday we had our first frost.  I decided it was time to start bringing in some of the bird feeders and rain gauge to be stored over the winter in the garage.  The neighbor mowed the lawn the other day and think it will probably be for the last time this year.  It has been unusual to get so much snow so early in South Dakota and that is just too close to Iowa.  The Almanac is saying a very harsh cold winter with lots of snow. I hope they are wrong.

Heat Wave

We have been having an unusual wave for this time of the year.  We have been in drought so long that dry leaves are falling off the trees.  It was supposed to be much cooler today.  Now they say it will cool off tomorrow.  I feel sorry for all those who have to work outside all day in this terrible heat.  I keep the shades pulled to keep out as much of the heat as possible.  It really keeps the air conditioner running.

It is Hot Again!

It is over 80 in the house and we have all the windows open. The problem is that there is not a whisper of a breeze outside. I decided I had it and shut all the windows and turned on the air conditioner. That's what we have it for and I want to use it. It won't take long and it will be livable in here again. Holly is panting something awful and she doesn't seem to take the heat like she did when she was younger. She is going to be 12 years old on the 25th. I hate to see her growing that old. But we are growing old with her :0)

Air Conditioning

Finally we are giving the air conditioner a couple days rest. We had to put new insulation on the pipe going into the house. It turned out to be an easy job. My husband put some tie downs on it today to make sure it stays in place. I am sure it will assist the air conditioner too. The humidity has dropped but it is now up to 84 degrees so I suppose we will have to turn it on again soon. Our little dog, Holly, gets so warm. But she is stretched out on the floor now in front of the fan and she is content.

Thank God for Air Conditioning

Whoever the man was that God gave the idea to for air conditioning did a wonderful job of inventing it. I could not stand to live in a house again without central air conditioning. And whenever you go for a ride in the car, on goes the air conditioning. We used to ride around with the windows open and when we arrived at our destination, we were so tired and worn out from the wind and heat. It is a little bit of heaven to have air conditioning now. Our parents were not able to enjoy it. They were lucky if they had a good fan.

Air Conditioning

Thank God for air conditioning. It was cool this morning and we opened all the windows and enjoyed the fresh air. Holly always goes to the window and sniffs the fresh air. It is funny to watch her. But by tonight it is over 80 and getting miserable so we closed up everything again and have the air conditioning running and it feels so good. I am sure glad someone invented it. Years ago, we just sweat it out. It's a wonder we ever got to sleep at night.

Warm Weather

It went from cold and rainy to hot and sunny overnight. First you need the furnace, then you need the air conditioning. In the mornings it is so cold, frost on the ground yet and you turn on the heat. Then in the afternoon it gets so hot in the house, that you either turn on the air conditioning or open all the windows if you have a good breeze. And where we live, there is always wind. A day without wind is very rare.
