Old Family Pictures

It is a great deal of fun to look back at old family pictures.  I remember the day we brought the twins home.  My husband was so very proud as you can see here.  They are fraternal girls but seem to often think alike.  They are having a weekend shopping together.  There is that "twin" connection and they need to get together every now and then.  Now that that their families have grown so much they don't get as much chance to do that but once a year they spend a weekend Christmas shopping.  I am really glad they can do that.  I used to go along until my knee gave out and I had to quit.  I know they will have a great weekend.

Mississippi River

Last week we went with relatives to McGregor and Guttenberg on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River. The River has been in flood stage for weeks and was still 4 feet above flood stage after the 3 days we were there. My sister-in-law wanted to ride the ferry across the river in the worst way but the currents and whirlpools were really bad and the ferry couldn't run. It would have been too dangerous if it had run. But we had a motel where we could sit outside, right along side the Mississippi and watch barges trying to go south. They couldn't go north because many islands were covered and there were all kind of sand bars that they were getting hung up on even south of Lock #10.

Shopping

Time to go shopping today.  The rain has finally stopped.  Many towns are badly flooded and many homes are flooded.  I feel so sorry for those people who had to leave their homes.  It has been a very bad year for heavy rains and floods.  When you get 6" or more of rains in one rainstorm in a short time, it is very unusual.  The hard winds haven't quit blowing yet either.  I hope it stops soon so we can leave for shopping.

Shop Till You Drop

My husband had a doctor's appointment in a neighboring town, so I made out my list. We went several hours early and just about shopped till we dropped. Both our backs and feet hurt but we got it all done. I did fine out that a vitamin I take has been discontinued because the company was sold to another and they changed the makeup of it. That was a HUGE disappointment. I did get everything else on my list though and we got to the doctor's office in plenty of time and even got a good parking place.

Storm Brewing

It looks like a storm is brewing up. It is getting awful dark in the west. It has been sunny all morning and I was hoping to get to the store before it rained. I have been busy on the computer and just had to finish a few things and probably should have gone to the store sooner. It won't be long and it will be time to get the mail too. I guess it is lunch time now so better get going on that and have towels in the dryer to fold also. Busy time.

Weather

No kidding when they say if you don't like the weather here, just wait a day. It went from boiling hot to almost chilly. I wore a jacket to the garage this morning to get the car serviced. Had to pick up some groceries but by then it had warmed enough to leave the jacket in the car. Why is it we are always on the verge of being out of milk? We ought to have a cow for as much milk as we drink. It goes fast though if you use it in pudding or cappiccino but it is soooo good. Well better get busy and start lining up supper. Picked up a couple ears of sweet corn but doubt it is very good yet as it has to be flown in from across the country

Milk

Have you noticed the price of milk? Gas is cheaper by the gallon than milk. However, milk is so good for you. We go through at least a gallon a week or more and there are just two of us. I often buy a half gallon of chocolate milk too and it goes even faster :0) It is good for your bones and at our ages, we need all the help we can get.

Construction Business Cards

One of the easiest ways to get the word out about your business is through business cards. There is a great deal of home improvement going on these days. People are unable to sell their homes as fast as they would like so they build on or make home improvements. I notice everywhere we go to find the materials for our home improvements that they give out construction business cards. I think it is a very good idea because sometimes you get home and you cannot remember where you saw a particular item that you want in your home. All businesses need a good business card with their name, address and phone number on it. Often you can shop at those very same stores using the Internet. This can save you a great deal of time, money and even gas running from store to store. All construction businesses would do well to have a good business card available at all times to pass out to prospective customers.

I know most of our children have done some kind of home improvement to their homes, either building on a family room or adding a deck. Some have re-sided their homes and I know they all shopped around for the best deals. But like I said, so often you go to so many places, you can't remember where you found the best deals. It is easy to write it on the back of their business card and when you get home you are all set. You can sit down and plan out what you want to do and then plan where to buy what you need for your projects.

Shopping for Girls

Shopping today for girls is quite different than it was even 5 years ago. The styles have changed so much that it almost boggles your mind trying to decide what to get them to wear that they will like and will be in fashion.
By going online for clothing at this website you will find you are not limited to just one store. You have every store on the internet available for you to check out and everything that is on sale.
And don't forget about sports clothing. This is the place to find all the neat pieces of clothing every girl wants. Your kids will be the envy of the school and you will be smiling because you have saved so much money shopping for their favorite things.

Grocery Shopping

Now that Christmas and New Years are over, I find the cupboards are bare. It is time to go out and do the big time grocery shopping and fill up everything again. Aren't we blessed in the good old USA to be able to go to the store, if you have the money, and buy almost anything you could possibly desire? They have beautiful fresh fruit and vegetable displays and the meat counters are full of every possible cut of beef, pork and chicken. There is a lot of great fish also.

The soup and vegetable aisles get a lot of my business and can't forget the coffee and creamer either. Then it is on to the fruit. It is great to have both fresh and canned fruit. One of our most favorite fruits is canned sliced peaches. They make a great ending to a perfect meal or imperfect one for that matter. We love pears, fruit cocktail and frozen strawberries too. There are lots of great frozen vegetables too and now there are so many frozen biscuits and breads.

I have some frozen wheat loaves right now and I need to get some out and get them rising so I can bake some. It smells wonderful when it is baking and tastes so good too with butter and jam. Makes you hungry just thinking about it, doesn't it? I think I will take my husband along this time, because he comes up with some good ideas sometimes, of things I haven't made for awhile and that is good. Variety is the spice of life so they say, and I think they are correct. Happy shopping everyone.

What a Beautiful Day Today

It was just a beautiful day today after a day of cold temperatures, clouds and high winds yesterday. It didn't take long to freeze your fingers yesterday and they were telling parents to bundle up the kids in case of frostbite. But today the wind stopped. The sun came out all day and it warmed up some even though we are below normal. Nights are very cold. This morning I think it was 4 degrees. We were able to get out and pick up my husband's new lens for his glasses, gas up the car for $1.72 a gallon, do some shopping at Wal-Mart and pick up dog food at Petco for Holly. I left my gloves in the car most of the time and it was really nice not to have to keep track of them while shopping. We need more days like this before the real winter weather sets in with snow.

Shopping for Baby Gifts

Shopping for baby gifts has sure changed since my children were babies and young children under the age of two. They have added so many different varieties of clothing such as the tiniest little jeans for the tiny ones. And they have the cutest shirts too with great sayings and designs and all the bright colors. And as for toys, I didn't even recognize the toy aisle. There are so many action figures, computerized musical toys and educational toys. It is very hard to decide just what they would like best, but then little ones enjoy everything. And often end up playing with the box the gift came in. That is one thing that has not changed over the years. I remember as the children got older, they loved playing in a washer or dryer box and making a house out of it. Some things change with time but others remain the same.

Shopping

Are you a one stop shopping person or do you enjoy hitting all the stores? I have gotten more and more into being a one stop shopping person, doing a great deal of my shopping at Wal-Mart. I see the figures for sales at Wal-Mart were up whereas Target's were down. I was surprised that Target showed a loss in sales as it seems like everyone around here goes there to register for their weddings and baby showers.

Wal-Mart has really reorganized their store and it is so much easier to see across the store now to the various departments. I really like that as I am short and with shelves almost to the ceiling, it was difficult to find departments sometimes. One thing I really like about them is that they have plenty of knowledgeable help everywhere that will take you right to the spot you need.

They have a great grocery department too with everything you could possibly want and a pharmacy, jewelry, all the Vitamins and it seems unlimited. When we are ready for a new bird feeder we go there first. Last summer we picked up two great padded folding chairs to sit outside on. They are so comfortable compared to the plastic ones we had before and light weight to carry to picnics, fireworks, etc. Pet supplies, toys for the kids, clothing, you name it, they seem to have it and they are in a new location on the edge of town so we don't need to drive through town through all the traffic to get there. I guess Wal-Mart is our favorite store.

Shopping

We went shopping at Wal-Mart today. I love to shop there as their prices are so good and I believe the quality of their clothing and most everything is very good. I bought a bunch of cereal a lot cheaper than in our little town. My husband got 3 new long sleeve dress shirts for church and the winter wear. Also two turtleneck sweaters too. We got a good big piece of plastic to put under my computer chair so it doesn't wear out the carpet. It was beginning to look that way.
