Cemetary

It was one of the last warmer days yesterday.  I decided it was a good day to go out to the cemetary and bring home some of the things. I have a big shepards hook with an artificial basket of flowers that got quite well beaten up by the wind. My neighbor went along to see what she wanted to do at her husband's grave.  They are bringing their nameplate next week.  I put a couple of fall flowers out and took along 2 winter flowers (all artificial of course) and had her put one on her husband's grave and I put one on my husband's grave.  I think it is nice to see something out there so people know someone cares.

The Neighbor's Dog

My neighbor has the cutest little Pappion.  Anytime I call him, he comes running to have his ears scratched.  He is so cute.  If the neighbor just says my name, he gets all excited and wants to come over.  He knows I will scratch his ears and pet him.  He is such a little dog but he just loves snow.  He will take a running jump right into a snow bank.  He will jump in the last piles that are left in the Spring.  He's so funny.

Fog

We got a bunch of freezing rain and sleet on Sunday.  Everything is a skating rink outside.  I don't think I will even go after the mail as the driveway is very slick and it is probably just junk mail anyway.  The mailboxes are quite deep so would hold a lot anyway.  We have extremely thick fox too.  Started last night and they say it is going to last till tomorrow.  Then we may get some snow.  Snow on top of the ice won't be good either.  I see the neighbor has been scraping ice off his sidewalks for an hour now.  Also scraped his driveway.  It's no fun.

Valentines Surprise

My next door neighbor brought me over a little box of very good chocolates. I haven't had chocolates for years. My husband was never one to make over Valentine's Day and neither did I. He did get me a huge box of chocolates when we were on the farm one year so I will always remember that. Now he is in Heaven with Jesus and that's the best Valentine's Day he ever had and will continue to have.

Sweet Corn

We kept watching for the sweet corn to come into our local grocery store. The kind that comes there is always the best. Well, we waited and waited. Finally we saw a truck in another town and got some there. We ate all but 2 ears and Jake's sweet corn came in and I bought it at the local grocery store. I no sooner had it in the refrigerator when a neighbor came with more sweetcorn that they had just picked out of the field. All of a sudden we had more sweetcorn than the two of us knew what to do with so we gave away some to a neighbor. Tonight, guess what is for supper?

The Neighbor

We have a very good neighbor who has a big garden across the way from us. She brings us all kinds of fresh vegetables from her garden. Last week she brought me a bunch of Swiss Chard. It is much like spinach and I love spinach. Then she brought some yellow summer squash and enough to give my other neighbor next door. Also cucumbers, so crisp and good, I really like those. Now the tomatoes are starting and there is nothing like a home grown tomato, unlike the half green, hard ones you get in the grocery store. I send home cake and cookies or pie if I have it because those are things that she doesn't get or have in the house as her husband is diabetic.

Evergreen Trees

The neighbor wrote some place and they sent him 8 little evergreen trees free.. The can't be more than 6" tall and he planted them all in a little row and put a high fence around them. They are supposed to be planted 12 feet apart so I would think he is going to have to transplant them all again next year and that could be quite a job to be sure you get the roots. He's not very well and it is quite a job for him to do anything out in the yard. I hope for his sake that they take hold and grow but it seems like it is the wrong time of year to plant them with snow on the way in the next month or so.
