Early Snow

There has already been too much early snow west of us. Montana got 6 inches the other day. Utah got some too, I think. Then yesterday, South Dakota Black Hills got a lot of snow. That is too close to us. It is way to early too. I sure hope that doesn't mean we are going to have a long long cold winter with lots of snow. I dread walking on ice. At my age, it is really dangerous. It means staying in the house a lot too when it get slick outside. Today we are having cold temperatures, 48 degrees today is our high so far and going to freeze tonight. I don't like that - at least not in early September.

Weather Report

Another bad weather report.  They are saying we will have another blizzard tomorrow.  People will have trouble getting to work.  If they get to work, they will have trouble getting home.  Yesterday was a beautiful day.  Much snow melted but it left a lot of ice behind.  It is 30 degrees already which is quite warm for the winter we have been having.  It will melt a lot of snow again today but we are due to get icy conditions and 3-7 inches of new snow again.  We will all enjoy Spring whenever it gets here.  It will be appreciated more than ever this year.

Fog

We got a bunch of freezing rain and sleet on Sunday.  Everything is a skating rink outside.  I don't think I will even go after the mail as the driveway is very slick and it is probably just junk mail anyway.  The mailboxes are quite deep so would hold a lot anyway.  We have extremely thick fox too.  Started last night and they say it is going to last till tomorrow.  Then we may get some snow.  Snow on top of the ice won't be good either.  I see the neighbor has been scraping ice off his sidewalks for an hour now.  Also scraped his driveway.  It's no fun.

Storm Warning Again

They tell us we are under another winter storm warning. It seems we get one a week at least. Just about the time you think the snow is going to finally disappear, we get a whole new batch. Last night we had freezing rain for just long enough to make everything slippery this morning. It was hard on people going to work as you want to stay out of the ditches.

It is only about 20 plus days till the first day of Spring but I bet we will see snow storms all through March. Every time there is a State wrestling meet or the girls and boys basketball tournaments, there is a snow storm. You can set your calendar by it. We had a terrific blizzard Saturday, the last day of wrestling tournaments and hopefully, everyone got home safely. Most people plan to stay overnight in the capital city and that is a good idea in this weather. Today it is over 40 and snow is melting but that is all going to change tonight and temperatures are going to dip again once more. Spring - where are you?

Mars Lander Finds Salty Environment

Did you know the Phoenix Lander found a salty environment on Mars? It's first taste of the soil near Mars' north pole reveals a briny environment similar to what can be found in backyards on earth. Anyway that is what the scientists say.

I heard last week they found ice. We can't handle Earth, what do we want with another planet full of people who can't take care of it. Besides it is so cold there it would freeze anything. I'm sure a lot of you would agree with them about putting people there, (I can think of a few) but I think they are nuts.

They think it seems very friendly. I would suggest that they go there first and try it out and come back and tell us all about living there for awhile.

So far the Phoenix hasn't found any organic carbon considered an essential building block of life - DUH! I am shocked. Scientists generally agree that liquid water, which is a stable energy source and organic, or carbon containing, compounds are required for a habitable zone. YA THINK?

Ice, Snow and Sleet

We got a bunch of what they call "corn snow" around this part of the country. Then it was sleet, then freezing rain, then snow, then sleet, etc. We got about 2-3" of the stuff and everything is like an ice rink. Roads are all iced over and driving is very hazardous. Cars are in the ditches. Our landlord came this morning with his skidloader and cleared our driveway. We tried with shovels and the snowblower but the snowblower just rolled up over the top of it. Sure glad we have such a good landlord.
