Ehud Olmert Warns of the End of Israel

Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said failure to negotiate a two-state solution with the Palestinians would spell the end of the State of Israel. He warned of a South African-style struggle which Israel would lose if a Palestinian state was not established. He was returning from the Annapolis conference in the US where he and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas pledged to launch formal peach talks.

Snow Storm

Sounds like a big snow storm is on the way. But I do not like it that they are talking about freezing rain first. If we get freezing rain and then snow on top of it, all the flowers will freeze out. Sometimes the grass even freezes out in place. That is not good. Last I heard they were talking 6 inches of snow as the worst case scenario. That does not sound good at all and on the weekend when everyone wants to go shopping after working all week. Sure hope it goes north and south of us. It has done that in years past.

Cuba to Have National Elections

Cuba announced that it has set January 20, for national elections that are part of the process of determining whether ailing leader, Fidel Castro, continues as president. The ruling, signed by interim leader, Raul Castro, and read on state television, set the date for elections to provincial and national assemblies, voting that is held every five years. There was no explicit mention of Fidel Castro, but the 81 year old leader of the Cuban Revolution must be re-elected to the national parliament before he could repeat as president of the Council of State to remain in full power.

Identity Theft

A former police officer who stole his dead cousin's identity to get on the force will not go to prison but must leave the country, according to a judge in Milwaukee. This man, age 25 was charged in federal court with falsely representing himself as an American citizen after an anonymous tip led the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to him. He was arrested May 31 and agreed to a plea deal about two weeks later. He did not fight the deportation and says he plans to live with relatives in Mexico and study computer engineering.
