Polygamist Sect Leader Sentenced

A judge sentenced a polygamous sect leader Tuesday to five years to life in prison for his role in the arranged marriage of teenage cousins. Warren Jeffs, age 51, was convicted of two counts of rape as an accomplice for his role in the marriage of a 14 year old follower and her 19 year old cousin in 2001. The sentences are to be served consecutively. It will be up to the Utah parole boards to decide just how long he stays behind bars. The average sentence served for such a crime as this in Utah is 7 years.

Bollywood Star'sSentence Upheld

A court in India has upheld the sentencing of Bollywood star Salman Khan in a case of poaching. Khan has asked the court to set aside a five year jail term, issued in April 2006 for hunting a protected gazelle on a trip to Rajasthan in 1998. Khan, one of Bollwood's top actors, was not present in the court in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city when the judge upheld the sentence. The court said that the actor should be sent to prison immediately.
