The Birds are Back

I saw a beautiful oriole at the hummingbird feeder on May lst.  I had just filled it and was so glad I did.  I got the finch feeders filled and ready too.  Today the first Goldfinch is out there eating.  Both birds are so beautiful.  I just love to watch them.  The hummingbirds should be coming soon too, usually around Mother's Day they always say.  The 10 inches of snow is all melted away now.  That was a shock to have all that snow two days in May.

Saturday

Here it is Saturday already. The week has just flown by. We got some good rain that did the flowers a lot of good. I didn't have to drag out the hose and water them. It has been that way all summer and that is good. Got the lawn mowed just before the rain. Was going out to eat but too many thunderstorms last night so ate at home. I really enjoy not having to make a meal now and then. It is a beautiful sunny day and I see a Goldfinch perched on the feeders next door.

The Goldfinch

The Goldfinch began to return yesterday. We saw just one and then this morning there were two beautiful bright yellow males and one female. There will soon be lots of them. We have a seed bag they just love and we have counted as many as a dozen feeding on it at one time. It is a beautiful sight to see. Once the rain stops next week, I will put out the hummingbird feeder and we should see the oriole too as they like that feeder to drink out of.

Hanging Baskets of Flowers

I went to the Greenhouse this morning to get a hanging basket. They were on sale and had not been picked over. I got a beautiful yellow begonia and I think it is just gorgeous. Also had them pot a pink hanging impatient in a smaller pot that hangs in a wrought iron heart out front. Our yellow peony tulips are blooming now and a few red ones. Also I saw my first hummingbird this morning and 4 Goldfinch. It is so good to see them back again. I think an oriole may be drinking out of the hummingbird feeder too as the syrup is going down pretty fast. This is a beautiful time of the year.

Goldfinch are Back!

The Goldfinch are back in big flocks. They are covering all 3 of our feeders and it looks like it is the young ones. They have lost most of their beautiful yellow color now and they say that happens in the fall. They all get to look like the females, kind of plain. It mustbe natures way of protecting them in the fall when they go south. It is sure fun to see them all again. The Monarch butterflies are all gone and the hummingbirds and the Goldfinch will leave soon too. Snow flurries have been showing up here and there.

Birds

Got the bird feeders filled and saw our first Goldfinch. They are the prettiest birds and so glad to see they are going to return again this year. We have feeders close to the windows so we can really see them. Hope to see orioles again this year. Last year was the first time we had some. And the hummingbirds usually come in May.
