Arizona Congressman Charged in Land Swap

There is so much corruption going on in our government today that it is making news almost every day. Don't these men make enough in salary from the hard working taxpayers here in the United States that they have to pull stuff like this? I guess the more money you have, the more you want and if you have a position that enables you to take advantage of certain things, then you cheat to make more money. It is much like embezzling in my opinion. And now Federal authorities announced corruption charges accusing Rep. Rick Renzi of engineering a swap of federally owned mining land to benefit himself and a former business partner and stealing from his insurance company's clients. A lengthy federal investigation that had put the three-term Republican congressman under a cloud for more than a year ended in a 26-page indictment issued against him and two other men. Of course, Renzi has denied wrongdoing. I hope if he is guilty, and it sounds, like he is, that he is put away along with his former business partners.

Exile Condemns Iraqi Corruption

Iraq's former anti-corruption chief has given further details of what he says is widespread abuse in his country. He told the new that the commission he headed had gathered evidence of 3,000 cases of corruption. He was speaking of Washington, where he fled earlier this year, saying he feared for his life. A former judge charged with leading the fight against corruption in Iraq, he accused the Baghdad government of stopping him from pursuing culprits.

Vietnam Officials Jailed On Graft

Nine people have been sentenced in Vietnam over a high-profile gambling and bribery scandal that led a senior government minister to resign in 2006. Former transport minister officer was jailed for 13 years, seven others for up to seven years and one received a suspended sentence. They were accused of embezzling funds to place illegal bets on football, although one said he used family cash. Corruption is seen as a major problem in the one-part communist state.
